otter           Why is the River Otter a Nuisance?

River Otter (Lutra Canadensis): River Otters are carnivores. This mammal’s diet consists of their favorite fish, amphibians, turtles, crayfish, small mammals and birds.  River Otters are nocturnal. They are a member of the weasel family.  On average adult males weigh 25-33 lbs. and can be as long as 48-54 inches.  Female river otters on average weigh 19 lbs. and can be as long as 44 inches. They create dens in hollow logs, rock crevices, abandoned beaver dens and lodges also boat docks.
